I completed an undergraduate degree with honours in Visual Arts from the University of Western Ontario in 1996. I have worked in the graphic arts industry and started my own business as an event floral designer working with couples to create memorable events.
In 2020, I decided to retire from flowers and change careers before the pandemic began. I returned to school and graduated with a master’s diploma in Art Therapy from Toronto Art Therapy Institute (thesis pending). Over the years, my work with couples and families inspired my journey to further complete my education in couples and sex therapy.
Since finishing school, I received my Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) designation through CRPO. I have worked as an Art Therapist in various roles and settings, such as the women’s penitentiary and online adult trauma groups. I am now beginning my journey into private practice.
With the combination of my lived experience and training in art therapy, my approach is based on the tenants of Resilience and Strengths-based counseling. This approach focuses more on your strengths and less on shortcomings and setting reasonable expectations for yourself and others. I am particularly interested in photo-therapy, eco-therapy, and traditional arts and crafts practices to guide the healing process.
